Senior Associate Project Manager - Building Energy Codes at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Boise, Idaho, United States Job Description Overview The Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division of PNNL is accelerating the transition to a decarbonized, efficient, resilient, and secure energy system through basic and applied research. Join our team and make an impact The Buildings Simulation & Design Group provides energy simulation, tool development, and workflow automation for energy policy impact analyses and integrative building design processes. We are looking for a Senior Associate Project Manager (Project Manager 2) - Building Energy Codes to support work under the Department of Energy's (DOE) Building Energy Codes Program (BECP). PNNL is the lead lab supporting the DOE with the development of model codes and industry standards and technical assistance to drive the implementation of codes. The Senior Associate Project Manager will serve as a PNNL technical project manager of a large portfolio of projects funded by DOE to accelerate the implementation of resilient and efficient codes. The Senior Associate Project Manager will serve as the primary liaison between the DOE managers, funding recipients from various state, local, nonprofit, and private organizations, and various building energy efficiency and code subject matter experts, with the goal of helping to maximize the impact of the funded projects. The position will focus initially on projects associated with managing those DOE-funded projects to states and cities before pivoting to other building energy code development and implementation project management opportunities. Responsibilities Responsibilities of the Senior Associate Project Manager - Building Energy Codes include: + Set direction, define work plans, and oversee the execution of projects, ensuring consistency with the funding sponsor's goals and requirements. + Manage budgets and coordinate the efforts of direct team members and third parties in order to deliver projects according to plan. + Oversee quality control throughout the life cycle of projects. For the resilient and efficient codes implementation projects, this may include reviewing technical and progress reports from funding recipients to ensure they meet DOE quality standards and achieve stated milestones and deliverables and providing constructive feedback and guidance on how project deliverables can be improved. + Keep track of individual project timelines and engage regularly with funded project recipients to discuss progress. + Keep DOE sponsors informed of progress, deliverables, and timelines. + Provide guidance on technical project components or facilitate access to technical assistance to funded project teams when they request technical assistance from DOE and PNNL. Explain the technical assistance requests to PNNL's research and analysis teams and deliver or present the analysis findings to the project team. + Provide recommendations for ways to increase the impact of funded projects by identifying and making programmatic or technical connections for the project teams. + Participate in project-specific, regional, and national technical advisory groups through online and in-person meetings. + Keep track of the teams, scope, and timeline for when PNNL assistance is needed. Incorporate this information to PNNL's project management process such as planning, budgeting, and deliverables. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: + BS/BA and 7+ years of experience OR + MS/MA or higher and 5+ years of relevant project management experience Preferred Qualifications: + Strong technical understanding of building energy codes and other building efficiency policies, such as Building Performance Standards. + Experience reviewing technical proposals and overseeing teams performing work funded by grants or other competitive funding sources with successful outcomes. + Have excellent interpersonal skills and experience managing technical projects. + Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated records of managing challenges that could impact the team or project. + Excellent networker with strong interpersonal relationships. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability for writing in a clear and understandable manner. + Available for domestic travels several times a year. + Experience with workforce development programs preferred.
