**Job Description:**

Located in McDaniel College's Gill Center, the Leroy Merritt Fitness Center is open to all college employees, students, and approved guests. It offers free weights, machine weights, and cardio equipment. Reporting to the Leroy Merritt Fitness Center Manager/Sports Performance Director, the Desk Attendant is to provide operational support to the Fitness Center. This in an hourly position paying $15/hr with 12-15 hours of work a week.

**Responsibilities Include**

* Attending staff meetings and reviewing all operational policies, facility rules, safety procedures, job requirements, and the federal work study brochure.

* Reporting to work promptly for all scheduled work shifts.

* Requesting to see fitness center visitors' ID cards for facility use.

* Ensuring that all guests using the fitness center are checked-in before using equipment.

* Providing excellent customer service to all Leroy Merritt Fitness Center guests.

* Enforcing Leroy Merritt Fitness Center rules.

* Responding immediately to emergency issues.

* Reporting any problems to immediate supervisor.

* Performing walk-through of facility at periodic intervals during each work shift.

* Cleaning and picking up equipment and the facility at periodic intervals during each work shift.

* Turning off lights, equipment, and secure doors at closing.

* Picking up and re-racking weights that are left on the floor or on the bars.

* Performing other duties as assigned.

**Requirements:**

**Qualifications**

* Ability to provide exceptional customer service.

* Must be reliable, prompt, and self-motivated.

* Must be willing to interact with guests and to resolve any issues with rules.

* Prior experience with athletics, fitness, exercise equipment, and weight training is preferred.

* CPR/AED training is preferred.

* Ability to lift heavy items and to physically move around the facility and equipment.

* Ability to work well with others and to share work responsibilities.

**Working Conditions**

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a normal fitness center environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

**Physical Abilities**

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

* Ability to sit for long periods of time

* Ability to periodically push and pull objects weighing up to 50lbs without assistance while kneeling, squatting, reaching above the head, the waist, and below the knees. Must be able to bend at the knees.

* Ability to repetitively grasp and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Examples include typing and moving equipment.
