Assembler (G/ATOR Program)

Summary

The employee is engaged in the fabrication and assembly of tooling, dies, jigs and fixtures, and includes the development of special projects and machines.

Essential Functions

  1. Manufactures and builds parts that are used and assembled into dies, jigs, fixtures, and special projects/machines.
  2. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, and jigs and fixtures.
  3. Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize products to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  4. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances, using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers.
  5. The ability to fabricate and build assemblies.
  6. Accurately and efficiently assembles/tests products to achieve customer quality and on-time delivery schedules.
  7. Interpret complicated aerospace drawings and specifications.
  8. Use various types of fabrication equipment, conventional machine tools, precision measurement tools, and various hand tools.
  9. Understanding of assembly, bonding, riveting, and other processes associated with tool shop jobs.
  10. Positions parts and subassemblies by using templates or reading measurements.
  11. Performs basic assembly/test functions utilizing mechanical skills, hand and power tools, mechanical/electronic tools, test equipment, assembly fixtures, and inspection measurement equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  12. Performs touch-up or full surface painting of parts with finishing materials such as paint, lacquer, glaze etc. Mixes paint and cleans parts.
  13. Must perform assembly techniques such as countersinking, applying rivets, reaming, and drilling.


Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

Required:
  1. Ability to understanding and carry out detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions.
  2. Must know assembly, bonding, composite materials, riveting, and other processes associated with tool shop jobs.
  3. Knowledge of flight hardware, tooling and ground support (close tolerance assembly integration)
  4. Advanced math skills (Algebra, Trigonometry, GD&T Math)
  5. Set up and operate band saws, milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, hoist/crane equipment, etc.
  6. Knowledge in use of hand tools (drill motors, grinders, basic measurement Instruments, etc.)
  7. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing from 15 to 50 pounds.
  8. Minimum six years' experience as Assembler; including prior experience in Aerospace/Manufacturing setting.
  9. Requires the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  10. Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.

Salary Description

$25.00 - $40/hr.
