Summary: Instructs aqua fitness classesat the City's aquatic facilities. Classes vary from pre/post-natal waterfitness, arthritis, generalized water fitness and deep-water fitness.

EssentialDuties and Responsibilities: Thefollowing duties and responsibilities and illustrative of the primaryfunctions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
Instruction of safe, enjoyable aqua fitness classes.
Assist in the maintenance and care of program equipment, facilities, andenvironment.
Attend and participate in all required City sponsored trainings and meetings.
Knowledge and enforcement of aquatic policies and operating procedures.
Maintaining a level of physical fitness appropriate to the demands of theinstructors' position.
Knowledge and ability to assist with emergency procedures regarding FirstAid/CPR/AED, whistle blows, and accident and incident reports.
Maintaining a current certification of an accredited national water fitnesscertification.
Maintaining a current certification of First Aid/CPR/AED.
Understanding of wellness principles, basic physiology, and safe exercisetechniques, and the ability to communicate this information clearly to theparticipants.
Maintenance of documents including attendance forms and consent forms.
Communication with supervisors regarding concerns, comments, requests,complaints as necessary.
Performance of related work as required.

SupervisoryResponsibilities: Thisposition is not responsible for the supervision of employees.

The Aquatics Departmenthas a dynamic and changing schedule. Ability to work varying shifts isdesirable, particularly weekends and holiday shift availability.

Education andExperience: Mustmaintain a current certification of an accredited national water fitnesscertification and be able to demonstrate these skills during employment inaddition hold a First Aid/CPR/AED certification. If not currently obtained beable to obtain certification within first three months of hire.

Language Skills:Ability to readinstructions and communicate with City supervisor and the general public.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions fromsupervisor, user groups, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve andimplement practical solutions to problems. Ability to interpret a varietyof instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduleform. Foresee and initiate proactive measures to insure program quality,customer service and safety.

Certifications, Licenses, andRegistrations: CurrentFirst Aid/CPR Certifications required or obtained within first three months ofhire.

Physical Demands:
Bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, jumping, twisting, balancingkneeling, crouching, reaching and climbing
Physicalactivity required in leading/demonstrating classes
Liftingand carrying up to 25 pounds
Hand-eyecoordination for operation of a computer keyboard
Abilityto read written materials and to observe programs
Speechand hearing capabilities to maintain communications with employees and citizens

Step 1
Performsas required by job description with direct supervision
Servesas an Aquatics Fitness Instructor with punctual attendance for all scheduledshifts without incident
Attendsall scheduled aqua fitness instructor trainings unless excused
Independentlysets up and tears down class equipment in a timely manner
Accumulates a minimum of250 hours
Obtains Aqua FitnessInstructor Certification
Favorable review by theAquatics Coordinator
Step 2

Accumulates a minimum of480 hours as Aqua Fitness Instructor

Coordinates responsibilities and takes direction from the AquaticsCoordinators.

Accumulatesa minimum of 1040 hours as Aqua Fitness Instructor

Conductsregularly scheduled Aqua Fitness Instructor Trainings.
Dealswith public complaints, researches problem areas and offers suggestions forimprovements.
Exhibitsa high standard of public relations through speaking with patron on the variousprograms offered in aquatics
