Course:LSOC 225-01/POSC 225-01 ... Law and Judicial Politics (3 cr.)

This course explores the foundations of law in the United States by examining judicial systems and criminal and civil courts at the both the federal and state levels. The main focus is on what judges do, with a secondary focus on all aspects of the judicial process such as juries, attorneys, prosecutors, judicial selection, plea bargaining, and the social and political settings in which courts operate. This course is designed for students in political science who want a general understanding of the legal and judicial process as well as those who are thinking about attending law school. Our expectation is that the class will be taught in a highly interactive fashion, with graded assignments required on at least a bi-weekly basis, and 2-3 written exams.

The required textbook for the class is Judicial Process in America (12th edition) from Sage Publications. A detailed, weekly syllabus with assignments and grading scheme is required for all applicants, and should be sent to Dr. Don C. A minimum of a Master's degree is required.
