Description

Two-Way Immersion (TWI) teachers collaborate with colleagues to provide inclusive, appropriately designed scaffolded universal instruction in order to ensure students in the Two-Way Immersion (TWI) program continue to work toward the program's mission of high levels of bilingualism and biliteracy, academic achievement, and sociocultural competency. This position requires the teaching of two content areas in Spanish.

TWI classroom teachers will do the following (this list is illustrative and not all-inclusive):
Create positive relationships with students and families
Design and sustain a positive, healthy classroom environment that is conducive to learning and the social-emotional well-being for all students
Utilize innovative, scaffolded universal instructional practices that support the development of biliteracy, engage middle school students, and support them in their learning
Collaborate with colleagues in order to design, revise, and implement high-quality bilingual curriculum and instructional practices that integrate biliteracy with content
Actively and positively contribute to collaborative planning conversations with colleagues
Lend voice to TWI program design and development
Regularly examine data to inform and adjust instruction
Actively and regularly engage in professional learning opportunities

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
High levels of bilingualism and biliteracy in English and Spanish
Expertise in dual language programs, Spanish language development, and biliteracy curriculum and instruction
Experience with Professional Learning Communities, backwards design, and standards-based grading
Commitment to social justice and culturally and linguistically responsive practices
Commitment to teaching the whole child (academics and social emotional learning)
Ability to successfully collaborate and reflect within a school community dedicated to continuous improvement
Commitment to continued development of one's own cultural competence
Ability to adjust instruction based on formative assessment data
Ability to communicate effectively to form partnerships with families
Ability to reflect on practice in order to continue improving
Minimum grade point average of 2.75 in a 4.0 grading system in degree course work

Due to travel across educational settings, a valid Wisconsin driver's license is required.

Physical Functions:
This is a moderately physical job that requires exertions over 10 pounds of force. This job requires a combination of sitting and standing with a significant need to move about the building and campus. Verbal and auditory communications are frequently involved.

Duties may require occasionally operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments.
Duties may require prolonged use of a computer keyboard and monitor.
Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
Exposure to adverse weather conditions and seasonal temperature extremes.

Potential for interaction with disruptive and/or unruly individuals.
