Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Position Summary


The ideal candidate will exude a positive mindset, demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, and excel in cultivating client relationships. They will be adept at understanding client needs, devising effective strategies, crafting compelling proposals, and driving sales within the Mid-Atlantic region. This role entails comprehensive support across various projects necessitating extensive expertise in geotechnical engineering.


Responsibilities encompass diverse areas such as shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, karst hazards, mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) berms/walls, slope stability, ground improvement techniques, and geotechnical aspects of shale gas and solid waste projects. Proficiency in dam inspections, monitoring, rehabilitation, and permitting processes is highly valued.


Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Responsibilities


  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain schedules, develop project timelines, coordinate with subcontractors, and manage people and materials to complete jobs on schedule and within budget guidelines.
  • Act as the direct point of contact in communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Assess and mitigate project risks in advance of detailed engineering efforts.
  • Assist the business development team, including the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Perform and/or check technical calculations and prepare project reports and specifications.
  • Prepare client communications, proposals, contract documents, etc. and consults with other internal partners as needed.
  • Monitor project work progress, adhere to the scope of work and communicate with key stakeholders including the project manager, client, and subcontractors.
  • Pro-actively recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature and develop effective solutions.


Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Requirements


  • Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • P.E. registration is a must.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Exceptional communication and public speaking skills: articulate, assertive, and confident.
  • Strong organizational abilities demonstrated through successful management of multiple, complex projects.
  • Creative thinker with effective teamwork skills.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication with key stakeholders.
  • Strong technical competency and analytical skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with peers when necessary.
  • Effective presentation skills, capable of addressing inquiries from various audiences.
  • Experience in managing vendor and client payment terms to ensure positive cash flow.
  • Understanding of financial models and budget management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and other industry-specific software is desirable.
