JOB PURPOSE:
The primary responsibility of the Research Professor for the HU Transportation Research Center
(HUTRC) is to assist the PI and Co-PI in all research, reporting, and dissemination activities for
the HUTRC grants.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
Manage student workers and staff workers in the HUTRC.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Primary internal contacts would include the students, staff, faculty, and interim chair of the
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, specifically students and staff in the HUTRC.
External contacts would be grant sponsors such as DDOT and the US DOT.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Work in concert with the HUTRC staff to conduct transportation engineering research and
contractual work that ensures sponsor requirements and deliverable are met.
Create budgets, write proposals and progress reports.
Give updates to sponsors through presentations.
Provide leadership in the overall mission of the HUTRC.
Meet with sponsors as required for the successful management of the HUTRC grants.
Attend meetings with internal stakeholders and manage the day-to-day operations of the HUTRC
under the leadership of the HUTRC PI and Co-PI.

CORE COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge of transportation engineering related studies.
Ability to execute transportation engineering studies.
Ability to manage students and staff engineers.
Experience writing research reports for sponsors.
Research management skill.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Doctorate or its equivalent in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related
fields.
Demonstratable expertise in transportation engineering and related specialties.
Very good verbal and written communication skills.
