Job Details

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK

Employees in this class perform a wide variety of manual labor. However, as work experience is gained, employees may be assigned to work of more than ordinary difficulty. Work is usually closely supervised, and the employee receives specific work instructions at the beginning of each new assignment. Constant supervision is not necessary for routine or repetitive tasks.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Conducts routine repairs and maintenance on irrigation systems.

Forms and pours new sidewalks and makes streets repairs.

Conducts facility checks at Parks and Recreation locations.

Conducts baseball field repairs and routine maintenance.

Performs the waxing and stripping of floors at recreation locations.

Clean and maintain city facilities.

Operates light equipment as needed i.e.; mowers, sod cutters, mini excavators, backhoes.

Carry out the delivery, setup and breakdown for city wide special events.

Maintain, receive, and conduct inventory for Parks and Recreation warehouse bays.

Conduct limited construction related type work.

Digs, levels and spreads fill, rock, sand, gravel and soil.

Maintains Parks and Recreation general fields.

Paints City facilities both exterior and interior.

Performs minor repairs to City facilities.

Collects debris and loads it into a truck.

Loads and unloads trucks.

Cuts grass, weeds and brush and cares for shrubs, flowers and grass.

Rakes grass and trash and cuts down and removes trees.

Plants and trims trees and shrubs.

Transports materials, supplies and equipment used by crews.

Moves and carries heavy material such as pipe, lumber, gravel, sand and furniture.

Keeps simple records and submits routine reports.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to perform light and heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.

Ability to understand and follow specific oral or written instructions.

Ability to drive a truck, if required.

Ability to acquire knowledge and proficiency in the use of common hand tools and mechanical equipment.

Significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling.

Ability to lift heavy objects.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited high school/institution or possession of a state high school equivalency diploma (GED) and twelve months experience in performing unskilled, light, or heavy manual labor. Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.

Have a current valid State of Florida Driver License.
