Principal Responsibilities:

JCC Greater Boston is seeking a part-time Indoor and Outdoor Pool Lifeguard. This seasonal position would allow you to use your lifesaving skills while being a part of a dynamic team. JCC Greater Boston lifeguards create a safe and welcoming place for community members. As part of this energetic team, the successful candidate will lifeguard, keeping members and guests safe while creating a welcoming environment. The Aquatics Team is a lively and fun group to work with. This is an onsite role in Newton, which will run from May through Labor Day weekend.

This position will pay $20- $25/hr as a starting salary. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours the employee will work, the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity. Minimum Qualifications:

Responsibilities of Indoor and Outdoor Pool Lifeguard
  • Ensure the safety of every pool patron through education and attentiveness
  • Set up and break down equipment
  • Enforce the rules and regulations of the pools consistently
  • Maintain good working relationships with staff members, maintenance personnel, and administrative personnel
  • Resolve member concerns in a professional manner or escalate them, as appropriate
  • Develop professional relationships with members
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and in-services
  • Support JCC goals and objectives
  • Other activities, as required by the organization
Qualifications of Indoor and Outdoor Pool Lifeguard
  • Is 16 years of age or older at the time of hire
  • Has good communications skills with children
  • Models a strong team player approach
  • Is committed to delivering quality customer service
  • Is highly dependable
  • Is personable and friendly
  • Is able and willing to follow directions from supervisors and follow protocols
Essential Functions of Indoor and Outdoor Pool Lifeguard

Is able to:

Cognitive
  • see, hear, and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services
  • make safety-related decisions
  • communicate with community members and coworkers in person effectively, over email, and on the phone
  • read, write, understand, and speak English
Physical
  • work in a high temperature and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipment
  • lift up to 50 pounds
  • vision requirements include the ability to read routine and technical documents, use a computer, and answer a telephone
  • stand, walk, sit, stoop, and kneel frequently
