Join the NVFS Family: We are looking to hire a bilingual Spanish-speaking Family Resource Specialist to join the NVFS Healthy Families team in Loudon! As the Family Resource Specialist (FRS), you will be responsible for Healthy Families outreach and intake activities. As the FRS, you will conduct screening and assessment of families to determine appropriate referral to community services, including ongoing home visiting services with Healthy Families if indicated.As the FRS, you will represent and promote the Healthy Families program in the community and provides administrative assistance to the program as needed.

This position has a salary range in the mid 40s.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and implement an Outreach Plan to promote the program among all stakeholders in the community (i.e., partner agencies, potential participants and other residents) in coordination with the Program Supervisor.
  • Prepare and distribute promotional information about the program aimed at both participants and partner agencies.
  • Conduct presentations on program services and other relevant parent education topics to community groups.
  • Maintain a positive professional relationship with referral source agencies to facilitate an efficient, continuous flow of referrals to the program.
  • Plan and administer individual outreach to referred families to schedule assessments.
  • In accordance with Healthy Families America Best Practice Standards, schedule and conduct strength-based assessment interviews using the FROG Scale to determine program eligibility.
  • Link families to other community resources as needed.
  • Complete assessment report to include detailed narrative for scoring, completion of intake forms, and log of referrals and assessments.
  • Maintain updated community resource list and disseminate among program staff.
  • Assist Family Support Specialists (FSS) in finding resources and referrals for clients.
  • Provide case coverage to participant families during FSS vacancy or extended absence in order to maintain Healthy Families America Best Practice Standards on services to families.
  • Prepare documentation and maintain client files in accordance with program requirements and NVFS guidelines.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of group-based activities for Healthy Families clients.
  • Assist Program Supervisor with team meetings, training activities, new hire orientation, mentoring, report preparation and other tasks as needed.
  • Assist Healthy Families program management team in Advisory Board activities.
  • Represent the Healthy Families program as an active member of at least one community group relevant to the work of Healthy Families.
  • Participate effectively and positively in required Program and Agency meetings and trainings.
  • Perform data entry for record keeping and reporting purposes according to the federal/state/program guidelines.
  • Participate in regular supervision with Program Supervisor by providing regular updates and preparing case presentations.
  • Remain current on knowledge of standards and other program-related information.
  • Enter data for record keeping and reporting to meet relevant guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Your Background:We understand that you may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences.

  • High School graduate or GED; college coursework preferred.
  • Infant Mental Health endorsement preferred.
  • Familiarity with Healthy Families services and/or previous experience as a Healthy Families Family Support Specialist preferred.
  • Experience working with or providing services to children (aged 0-3 years) and families. This may include volunteering, internships, and/or personal lived experiences.
  • Must be willing and able to provide services in accordance with Healthy Families America Best Practice Standards.
  • Experience and humility to work with the culturally diverse populations present among the program's target population.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships with an acceptance of individual differences.
  • Willing to engage in building reflective capacity (i.e., has the capacity for introspection, communicates awareness of self in relation to others, and recognizes the value of supervision).
  • Oral and written fluency in English required. Bilingual fluency in a client language (such as Spanish, Amharic, Arabic) may be required. Additional language skills always welcome.
  • Proficiency in usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, and internet required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability.


Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background checks upon hire
  • May require clear Motor Vehicle Record check, valid U.S. driver's license and own transportation
  • Must have reliable transportation to conduct client home visits, make regular deliveries to client homes and visit other designated community locations.
  • Within a 37.5 hour workweek, need to have the flexibility to make evening and/or early morning home visits two days per week in order to accommodate clients' schedules; occasional weekend work required
  • This position is mostly in person with some remote work.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds of baby items and program materials.
