Job Description / Essential Elements:

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction, the Elementary Physical Education Specialist is assigned to work with selected elementary school sites to implement the state adopted standards for physical education by providing direct instruction to students in grades K-6. The goal is to have all students receive at minimum the state mandated 200 minutes of instruction every two weeks from a credentialed teacher.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct instruction to Elementary school students at various sites.
  • Prepare materials and equipment necessary for lessons.
  • Prepare and submit requested grades and State assessments in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Participate in school, District, and department activities and meetings.
  • Work with other staff including administration, counseling, clerical, and other teachers, to establish sportsmanship as a key ingredient for physical activity.
  • Provide instruction and compliance activities in accordance with state and federal law, District policies and procedures, and site needs.
  • Foster positive relationships between students, staff, and community members to encourage physical conditioning and team work.
  • Supervise students to assure their safety.
  • Monitor student achievement and adjust instructions in response to student performance and physical development.
  • Provide instruction in Health and Nutrition.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
  2. Credential: Valid California Teaching Credential for Physical Education.
  3. Experience: Experience working with elementary age students.

CA. Single Subject in Physical Education or P.E. Supplemental with EL Authorization.
