**Position description**

Mayo Clinic Global Security Officers provide a professional level of customer service and security presence. A Security officer will proactively patrol Mayo Clinic property and security sensitive areas. Will assist visitors, patients and staff as need be and help prevent and deter fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc.

May utilize security vehicle on a regular or occasional basis; enforces Mayo policies and responds to complaints and service calls for wrongdoing, prepares incident reports/activity logs, and may work in the Security control centers.

A Security Officer adapts to unpredictable and stressful situations; manages altercations and emergency crises in an effective and professional manner; operates and communicates on a two-way radio; exhibits good judgment, maturity, initiative, tact and diplomacy when dealing with people in stressful situations. They will frequently be walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pulling, climbing, reaching, and pushing, and occasionally running; is able to move quickly up and down stairwells, from the ground floor up to the top floor of each building without assistance; assists patients, volunteers, visitors, and staff with emergency evacuations, including evacuations in stairwells, to include handling emergency evacuation devices used to transport patients and others to safety; makes effective decisions as an emergency first responder, is confident in stressful situations, and works as a team member with other emergency responders, including law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel.

They are able to work nights and weekends for security and protection assignments and when required by emergency or special situations.

**Qualifications**

High school degree or GED equivalent is required.

**Additional qualifications**

Associate's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or a related field preferred; minimum two years of experience in a customer service, military, security position and/or a similar role; experience in a healthcare setting preferred; experience in patrolling, incident report writing, defensive tactics, emergency response, lock/unlock procedures, door access, and CCTV camera operation; experience with Windows XP or newer as well as intermediate skills in Microsoft Office software applications; technical aptitude to work with Security Technology is preferred.

Previous security experience; able to work independently and in a team-environment; requires strong sense of customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors and employees; requires strong written and verbal skills; strong problem solving skills are necessary.

Has the ability to read and communicate effectively in a pleasant, courteous, professional and friendly manner. Maintains a professional appearance at all times per organizational and department standards. Can restrain potentially violent individuals; demonstrated ability to remain calm and assume control of emergency situations.

Staff must participate in routine and ongoing training and development programs as required by the organization or department.

**License or certification**

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy; must obtain certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) as a Healthcare Security Officer within 6 months. Training certification in Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), basic CPR and AED, required within 1 year. Healthcare Defensive Tactics System (HDTS) certification within 1 year. Additionally, the officer shall undergo and pass a Fitness for Duty Assessment (where and when applicable), and every 2 years thereafter depending on site.

**Compensation Detail**

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $17.19 per hour.
