Job Details

Position function: Reporting to the R&D Applications and Technical Team Lead for Caldic North America, the individual will be responsible for the formulation and development of new products and prototypes, along with supporting the team at a technical level for Caldic s internal and external customers across North America.


Scope: The position will be responsible for developing new Caldic products and prototypes, supporting new product development and commercialization, providing ingredient technical support to the commercial team and customers, and working on ingredient matches and modifications for existing products. The position is an integral part of the Caldic R&D Applications team, which is focused on providing R&D support for Caldic manufactured and distributed ingredients. Caldic R&D Applications supports the entire North American Commercial Team in all market segments, including beverage, sauces and dressings, prepared foods, baked goods, meat, dairy, snacks, seasonings, sports nutrition, and pet food.


MAJOR TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • Developing and completing R&D projects as defined by the R&D Applications and Technical Team Lead
  • Collaborate with Business Teams to develop, coordinate, prepare, and present relevant concepts to customers featuring Caldic manufactured and distributed products
  • Develop, prepare, and coordinate shipments of prototypes for tradeshows and industry events; attendance and travel to shows and events may be required
  • Provide technical support and expertise in problem solving to external and internal customers
  • Responsible for supporting the successful commercialization of new products
  • Preparing preliminary product specifications for new products
  • Participate in and/or lead product improvement initiatives to improve the quality of existing products in response to customer feedback, to improve nutritional value, colour, flavour, texture and convenience, or to improve cost efficiencies in the plant.
  • Participate in marketing activities such as creating concept literature, new idea generation, and researching market trends as they pertain to strategic business plans and new products
  • Work closely with production, marketing, QA/QC in monitoring the performance of new products; may include troubleshooting, resolving quality issues, ingredient recommendations, and customer site visits
  • Prepare customer samples as required
  • Remain current with the market on training and new ingredients that are relevant to our business
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by R&D Applications and Technical Team Lead
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, GMP s and HACCP requirements


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University. B.Sc. Food Science or equivalent is a strong asset
  • Culinary competence in bakery and savoury applications
  • 2 - 4 years of product development experience in the food industry
  • Must have strong oral/written communication and good interpersonal skills
  • Must have strong presentation skills
  • Must have strong computer knowledge and skills (MS Office)
