Hybrid in West Loop : Crypto Risk Director
This is a hands-on, high-impact role that requires experience in risk management, specifically in the fintech and payments industry. The Crypto Risk Director will be responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of a company-wide risk strategy that accommodates the operational, legal, market, credit, regulatory, and technology risks of the various products.
This position is meant for someone who has a passion for fast-growing, early-stage startups and can be a Swiss Army knife of sorts. They will help in discussing new relationships with partners such as banks, regulators, and other key players. The team is growing, and they ll be able to hire and grow their own team over time.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, maintain, and monitor the Risk Management framework promoting the adoption of the Risk Operating Model and fostering a strong control environment.
- Collaborate with banking partners and others to ensure compliance with established programs, and maintain ongoing relationships with their compliance and risk teams.
- Facilitate the development of new key relationships with banks and other essential vendors in both current and future operational jurisdictions.
- Conduct, document, and routinely evaluate risk assessments across the company to ensure continuous alignment with business objectives.
- Develop and implement risk management policies, and create analytics to align company metrics with risk policies, including the risk appetite statement.
- Lead the execution of remediation plans to address critical issues, whether identified internally or externally.
- Work closely with compliance and legal partners to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions in which we operate.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Background:
- College Degree in Business, Information Technology, Information Security, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in risk management & compliance.
- Preference for crypto/fintech experience.
- Startup experience preferred.
- Based in Chicago.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, striving to work in a start-up environment and naturally finding solutions.
- Ability to present findings on a high level and report these to all stakeholders on a cross-functional level.
- Confidence when it comes to improving existing processes.
- Fluent in English with the ability to work well with colleagues across multiple time zones.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to provide viable solutions in a time-sensitive environment.
- Data-driven, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Experience in establishing processes, controls, and an oversight framework to ensure a standardized approach to outsourcing and third-party management.
