The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW), the Washington, DC-based trade association representing the $8 trillion revenue distribution industry, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our growing, collaborative, and nimble government relations team.

The candidate will serve a central role for our government relations team, a position that puts this person at the center of our advocacy, political, and communications operations. We are looking for an energetic and versatile individual seeking to expand on their policy experience and grow their advocacy skills.

Essential Job Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, each essential job responsibility must be performed satisfactorily.

  • Advocacy/Lobbying:
    • Help represent NAW and the wholesale distribution industry on Capitol Hill, before Federal Agencies and with key stakeholders on the issues impacting NAW members.
    • Manage legislative and regulatory initiatives relative to: Technology, Ai and automation as it relates to the supply chain; environment and energy related issues; small business and other relevant issues assigned to the position.
    • Write briefing papers, talking points and content for GR related newsletters.
    • Participate in issue-area advocacy coalitions with other trade association partners, think tanks, and member companies.
    • Attend Hill hearings, briefings, and off-campus events on NAW s behalf.
    • Assist with PAC fundraising including events on and off-site.
  • Communications management:
    • Coordinate with other departments to ensure interoffice communications run smoothly.
    • Assist with the Communication and Marketing Department to support public affairs and grassroots campaigns.
    • Assist with state relations communications to membership.
  • Department information management:
    • Maintain and update Congressional contacts for key Hill offices and committees.
    • Manage various Government Relations related distribution lists, for communications to Congress, external stakeholders and coalition partners, and our internal membership.
    • Some administrative duties including database entries, and list management for GR engagement.
  • Assist with other projects assigned.

Work Environment: The position is based at NAW s headquarters office in Washington, DC, near Metro Center. NAW is currently offering a hybrid work model. Employees are required to be in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and upon request for mandatory meetings or events. Employees are provided the opportunity to work remotely on Monday and Friday. The hybrid work model is subject to change. NAW s DC HQ office provides a standard office environment.

Travel: Minimal (less than 5%)

Requirements:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform the job as well as the experience requirements.

  • 1-3 years of related experience on Capitol Hill, trade association, political campaigns, or similar experience.
  • Experience working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; the position requires regular interaction with senior executives.
  • Excellent organization skills, and comfort using and editing spreadsheets.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a small group of strong individuals.
  • Ability to create new processes and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • A can do attitude toward problem solving.

Other Experience and Requirements:

  • General computer and editing skills, required.
  • Experience with Excel and/or Salesforce, desirable.
  • Familiarity with political fundraising and/or PAC events.
  • Genuine interest in business issues and advocacy with a goal of a career in the political/policy economy.
