Summary: This posting is a dual advertisement filling positions as Maintenance Helpers and Parts Runners within the Fleet Services. The Maintenance Helper, Fleet cleans and maintains building appearance. Delivers pool cars and shifts City vehicles. The Parts Runner is responsible for the pick-up and delivery of parts, supplies, and vehicles for Fleet Services, also cleaning and re-stock the parts room and fuel island.

This is an hourly position that will work a maximum of 29 hours/week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive of the Maintenance Helper, Fleet.

  • Maintains building appearance.
  • Operates snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots, sidewalks and driveways.
  • Performs custodial duties such as cleaning building, sweeping, scrubbing floors and emptying trash.
  • Delivers City vehicles to outside vendors.
  • Inspects vehicles in pool and performs minor maintenance such as tire repairs, checking fluids, and fueling.

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive of the Parts Runner.

  • Driver vehicles to transport parts and supplies to and from a variety of locations.
  • Restock and cleans the Parts Room.
  • Assists the Shop Operations with vehicle shuttle and shop clean-up.
  • Cleans and performs daily checks on delivery vehicle.
  • Answers phones and provides general information as needed.
  • Stock and clean fuel island.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is not responsible for the supervision of regular City employees.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate and maintain vehicles and equipment such as snowplow and forklift.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment fit for duty test.
  • Submit to Pre-employment drug test

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED; one to two years related experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with supervisors, coworkers, customers and citizens.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver's license.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee would encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
