Position Description

Hourly Rate: $19.67/hr.

This recruitment is for a part-time Redlight Camera position.

General non-sworn police related duties, involving the writing of official police reports, red light camera warnings and citations, uniform traffic citations and parking citations, and the rendering of assistance to the public. Duties may also involve the investigation of certain types of criminal incidents, civil incidents, motor vehicle accidents, and include the processing of crime scenes.

Employees perform duties in accordance with departmental rules and regulations and in accordance with existing laws and ordinances. Work is performed under general supervision through the assignment of duties, personal inspection, and review of work product and reports. Civilian technicians must be able to exercise sound judgment in the performance of police-related duties. Must attend selected training programs sponsored by the Police Department.
Duties and Responsibilities

Employee may be assigned to any of the following duties: Prepare reports on initial investigation of assigned calls for service which may include criminal matters and/or motor vehicle accidents; process initial investigation, evaluate, critique, and analyze potential violations; approve and issue appropriate warnings and civil citations as authorized by Florida State Statutes; prepare reports; issue parking tickets and warnings; take into custody found property and items of evidence as directed by competent authority; use a computer to input and retrieve information; provide basic customer service giving information and assistance to the public; may testify in court; may work the court liaison position as needed; may serve in the Communications Center or perform other police-related functions as necessary; use telephone and radio communications equipment; may assist in processing forfeiture cases and the collection of settlements for deposit in the Special Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and may operate Police Department vehicles for the above purposes as necessary for the performance of those duties. Performs related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.

High School Graduation or High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year of related experience required. Depending on area of assignment, position may require one (1) year of vocational training in Crime Scene Investigation supplemented by one (1) year of experience in conducting and processing crime scene investigations; or may require ability to successfully complete the State of Florida Selective Traffic Enforcement Program for Civilians (STEP) training program or equivalent; or prefer prior investigative and/or sworn law enforcement experience. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

In addition to the preceding, the following specific information applies to civilian positions assigned to each individual division:

DIVISION AREA SPECIFICS:
Red Light Camera Unit:
Evaluate, critique, and analyze potential red light camera violations received via computer; approve and issue appropriate warnings and civil citations as authorized by Florida State Statutes relating to red light cameras; reject received red light camera violations which do not meet departmental specifications; prepare reports related to red light camera violations as required; utilize a department issued camera to obtain photographs of vehicles involved in red light camera violations.

Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and to record them clearly and completely.
Ability to learn the basic principles, practices, and procedures of police work to the extent they are necessary for the performance of the above-described duties.
Ability to use a computer to analyze, critique, input, and retrieve accurate information.
Ability to use a computer to accept or reject red light camera violations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with the public and enforce laws and ordinances tactfully, firmly, and impartially.
Ability to learn applicable laws and ordinances and departmental rules of conduct and procedures and work within their scope.
Ability to get information verbally and write it down in an accurate, understandable, and grammatically correct manner.
Ability to complete training needed to successfully perform assigned job duties.
Possession of a valid State of Florida driver's license.
