The City of Glendale is offering a
$2,000 HIRING BONUS
for the position of
Equipment Operator (CDL-Driver) Solid Waste Management
Bonus to be paid as follows: $1,000 after 30 days of employment and $1,000 after 6 months of employment. You must be an active employee at the time the hiring bonus is scheduled to be paid to receive the bonus. Current regular status City of Glendale employees are not eligible for hiring bonuses.

Operates heavy and other specialized equipment in the Solid Waste Management Division of the Field Operations Department.
- Operates heavy automotive and specialized equipment including street sweeper, one-man sanitation truck, 40-yard container, truck and trailer.
- Operates brush tractor with grapple buckets and hand load rear-loaders, balers, sorting lines, crane trucks and forklifts.
- Fills the street sweeper water tanks and regulates valves controlling water supply.
- Works as a laborer when not operating equipment.
- Automatically or manually, depending on the item, gathers, lifts and maneuvers appliances, bulk items, refuse containers, etc.
- Empties containers into the sanitation truck and operates the hydraulic packer to compact refuse. Identifies non-collectable, acceptable waste.
- Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on the equipment such as cleaning, fueling, checking and adding oil, filling radiator and maintaining tire pressure. Other minor maintenance may include adjusting or replacement of gutter brooms, conveyor belts, and pick-up brooms.
- Performs safety checks on equipment.
- Monitors to assure the quality in refuse collection, recyclable collection, and in the sorting and bailing of recyclable materials.
- Operates portable radios.
- Keeps daily log of work performed, mileage, tons dumped, equipment condition and performance.
- Accurately and timely completes accident report forms and time sheets.
- Completes public violation notifications and corrective action tags.
- Repairs and delivers containers for commercial and residential customers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
One (1) year of experience in the operation of heavy automotive and specialized equipment. Valid CDL-Class B driver's License with Air Brake endorsement at time of application is required.

Detect needed repairs to make necessary operations adjustments

Coordinate eye and hand movements
Fill out accident reports
Deal with the public in the resolution of sanitation service problems
Identify hazardous or special waste and take appropriate reporting action
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements
A class B commercial driver's license with Air Brake endorsement at time of application is required.
May be required to work mandatory overtime as needed.

Work requires lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling trash containers and other objects, sitting and climbing. When performing manual labor work requires walking, standing, raking, lifting, bending.
Working Conditions
Rough driving, driving in heavy traffic and exposure to dust, fumes, weather extremes and hazardous materials such as solvents, adhesives, paints, hot oil and other chemicals.
