Payroll Specialist


Job Details

The Payroll Specialist performs a variety of complex and specialized payroll and accounting duties for multiple ATA clients. Reviews and reconciles a variety of payroll reports including payroll taxes, benefits reports, quarterly taxes, ACA reporting, and retirement contributions. Ensures all local, state, and federal rules and regulations are followed. Answers questions from clients regarding payroll processes, procedures, and reports.

Payroll Specialist Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, maintain, process, and reconcile complex payrolls
  • Process changes in pay, tax status, and other employee information accurately and efficiently
  • Process garnishments, tax levies, and other wage attachments within required deadlines
  • Prepares pay records for posting and ACH processing
  • Prepares quarterly Federal, State, and Local returns
  • File reports for ACA, W2, 1099 etc.
  • Maintain payroll records, reports, and files
  • Prepare and submit financial reports to government regulatory agencies
  • Assist in compiling and organizing data for external audit requests
  • Communicate clearly and concisely; respond appropriately and effectively to the needs of clients
  • Safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of records
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Payroll Specialist Required Education, Skills, & Qualifications:
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying
  • 1-3 years of experience processing payroll for multiple clients strongly preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience processing quarterly payroll tax returns strongly preferred
  • An Associate or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred but not required
  • Understand federal, state, and local laws and regulations applicable to payroll processing
  • Experience with multi-state payroll requirements is preferred but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, & Excel
  • Knowledge of payroll programs preferred but not required. i.e. ACS, QuickBooks (desktop & online), ADP, and Paychex
  • Ability to handle a high volume of client payrolls
  • Excellent client interaction and written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Customer service orientation with a commitment to excellence
  • Effective time management skills to meet specific deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
