**Position Title:** Child Care Teacher Preschool
**Reports To:** Center Director
**FLSA:** Non- Exempt E**ssential Function**
Supervises and manages a group of preschool aged children in cooperation with the Center Director and is prepared to assume the duties of the Center Director, if necessary.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Becomes acquainted with, and abides by, all policies of Play Centers, Inc.
- Manages classroom ensuring compliance with all MSDE-OCC regulations, company standards, policies and procedures.
- Plans, adapts and schedules age appropriate curriculum involving various activities to stimulate the childrens cognitive skills, abilities and development.
- Provides continuous supervision to children to ensure the health and safety of children.
- Maintains classroom and play areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Sets up room and areas for various activities such as lunch, naps, games, etc.
- Records daily observations of childrens behavior and activities; monitors behavioral patterns and develops assessment and profiles.
- Cooperates with other staff to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children.
- Schedules parent conferences to discuss childrens development and concerns; works with family to devise learning and developmental strategies as necessary.
- Encourages parent participation in Centers functions whenever possible.
- Maintains accurate attendance and enrollment records.
- Monitors children for signs of child abuse and reports incidents of suspected abuse to appropriate authorities.
- Knows all health and emergency policies of the program and is ready to implement them if necessary.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies and materials for classroom use and communicates classroom needs to the Center Director.
- Assists the Center Director in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards.
- Supervises child care assistants and/or child care aides.
- Keeps current with new research and developments in the field of Early Childhood Education.
- Actively maintains a Level 2 (or higher) in the MSDE Credentialing Program.
- Actively participates in the MSDE Accreditation/Maryland EXCELS programs.
- Attends and participates in professional conferences, lectures, and other educational events.
- Attends Staff meetings.
- Performs any other duties, as assigned.

1. Must be professionally prepared in a field relating to Early Childhood Education.
2. Must meet the guidelines of the Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care. 3. Must hold a valid drivers license.

- Ability to work the hours scheduled.
- Ability to maintain a neat and clean appearance.
- Possess an understanding of child development and the manner in which young children learn.
- Knowledge of MSDE Accreditation and Certification requirements and standards.
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of personalities in a diverse community.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Ability to work successfully in a multi-tasking environment with constant changes in priorities based on center needs.
- Ability to use independent judgment.
- Ability to problem-solve.
- Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Knowledge of behavior management skills and techniques.
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
- Ability to make decisions on behalf of the children in order to protect their well-being.
- Ability to manage confidential information.
**Conditions of Employment**
- Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and First Aid Certificate.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical.
- Must meet the requirements outlined by the state child care regulations regarding an approved continued training program each year. Other trainings may be required as well.
- May be required to work beyond normally scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice.
