Maintenance Manager


Job Details

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance of our automated material handling system in a warehouse environment. This person will lead, mentor, and coach the site maintenance team and provide support to the Site Manager in the day-to-day operations of the system. This is a hands-on position that requires a commitment to be present with his/her team and be available as the subject matter expert to lead the repair and preventive maintenance routines.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead a team of electro-mechanical technicians in the maintenance, repair, and enhancement of an advanced warehouse automated material handling system
  • Directly manage team leads, promote a sense of innovation, commitment, and success in all maintenance team activities through people-centric coaching, mentoring, and development
  • Ensure the proper review of system condition through constant evaluation and analysis of system performance in conjunction with the continuous improvement team
  • Work on the floor with the team to ensure correct process and procedures are adhered to
  • Build and lead the execution of efficient preventive maintenance schedules to minimize operational impact and ensure production targets are met or exceeded
  • Maintain an effective schedule of maintenance labor within our CMMS program
  • Analyze work order data for quality and standard adherence. Take corrective action to maintain the integrity of the CMMS data.
  • Direct the activity of the spare parts coordinator to ensure the necessary inventory to guarantee system performance and the timely resolution of breakdowns
  • Drive compliance in the fields of safety, human resources policy, and general best practices
  • Support the Site Manager in the overall leadership of the local team and serve as a proxy in his absence with colleagues, the customer and internal senior management
  • Maintain a document and training library accurate and effective information
  • Ability to track and maintain the system fault rate (Fault / 1000 cases / 100 pallets)
  • Track KPIs and act when KPI scores are not in compliance
  • Respond appropriately to system outages
  • Partner with Operations to ensure system productivity is achieved daily

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Management of teams, with a total of more than 40 colleagues working in shift patterns
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA / NFPA safety guidelines
  • Excellent mechanical maintenance and repair skills
  • Knowledge of wiring diagrams and electrical measuring a plus
  • Familiarity and/or experience with: electrics/mechanics in drive technology (motors/gears)
  • control technology (servo drives/inverters)
  • 3 Phase 480v, DC and 24v control
  • Basic PLC logic know how
  • Basic DCS networking
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Excellent PC skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Extensive knowledge of CMMS programs and maintenance planning software


Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in the following: Management of service and maintenance in production environments that utilize a range of mechanical automation and material handling equipment as well as electrical systems and PLCs
  • Management experience in an industrial environment with production or manufacturing equipment
  • CMRP or relevant project planning certification a plus
  • Previous experience with material handling automation in an automated warehouse a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous walking, climbing and standing
  • Lifting, pulling and pushing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work at heights of up 115 feet
  • Ability to work in temperatures ranging from 115 F to -15 F
