This is a remote opportunity in Michigan


We are seeking individuals in Michigan that want to make an enduring impact on the future of a successful, growing insurance organization. This position reports directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer.


Our underwriter role is unusual.

We look to you to own the relationship with your clients, about a dozen highly selected, elite agencies in the state. You conduct virtually all underwriting and pricing decisions as a single point of contact: all lines, all sizes and classes of accounts, all business whether new or renewal with a few exceptions for small renewals.


Predictive models don't price our business.

Our business isn't priced by models or underwritten by manuals or computers. As the industry automates, Grand River s model of hands-on underwriting is of increasing value to elite agencies and offers talented and experienced insurance professionals an opportunity to use their risk selection insight.


JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads and supports the execution of the underwriting, agency management, business

development, comprehensive policy servicing, and product marketing strategies.

  • Develops, manages, and maintains a growing, profitable portfolio of individually

underwritten, small/middle market, multiple-lines commercial business.

  • Regularly visits key agency contacts.
  • Works with the Director of Agency Relations in annual agency business planning.
  • Analyzes market conditions and develops and share market and competitive intelligence.
  • Performs other miscellaneous tasks, projects, and duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with agency partners.
  • At least 5+ years of commercial multi-line underwriting experience.
  • Professional industry designations (CPCU, CIC, ARM, etc.) preferred.
  • Must be comfortable and self-directed to work independently in a remote, virtual office

environment.

  • Exceptional desk management skills required.
  • Light to moderate travel (varying from 15%-25%) required for agency visitations and for

attendance at various company functions.

  • Valid driver's license required.
