**Position Title:****Fitness and Sports Lead**

**Location:**The Salvation Army

Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center

Suisun City, CA

**Reports to:**Fitness and Sports Manager

**FLSA Status:**Hourly (non-exempt)

**BASIC PURPOSE**

The Fitness and Sports Lead will assist the Fitness and Sports Manager in the day to day operations of the Department. Responsibilities will include assisting in scheduling of programs and staff within the department. Verify programs and events are properly planned and executed along with assisting with the scheduling of preventative maintenance of equipment.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

- Assist in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for fitness, gym and sport areas to include the aerobics room, fitness room, and gymnasium.

- Assist in scheduling, and monitor fitness, personal trainers, league sports, instructors, and gym staff to provide services such as: personal training, group exercise, specialty recreational programs.

- Maintain prescribed risk management standards to include certification, in-service training, and accident/incident report tracking.

- Develop and evaluate programs for effectiveness meeting community needs and Center goals under the direction of the Fitness and Sports Manager.

- Meet regularly with the Fitness and Sports Manager to discuss, challenges, conflicts, schedules, strategies, and goals. Balance the gym and fitness room schedules for programs, classes, and activities with the programming needs of the other Managers so as to integrate as many different aspects of the facility into as many programs as possible.

- Provide direct program supervision as required.

- Work with the Fitness and Sports Manager regarding program compliance with The Salvation Army child safety policies and procedures.

- Work closely with the Fitness and Sports Manager and Facilities Lead to prescribe daily, weekly, monthly, and annual preventative maintenance and cleaning of designated spaces. Provide a replacement schedule for fitness equipment and plan for capital improvements.

- Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army policies and procedures.

- Other duties as assigned.

- Provide assistance to any special event function

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Fitness and Nutrition, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or related field preferred. Five Years of related job experience may be considered as a substitute.

Skills

- Current personal training and/or group exercise certification from one of the following organizations (NASM, NSCA, ACSM, AFAA, or ACE). Sport management or coaching experience is preferred.

- Progressive full-time programming and supervisory experience in the recreational, sports, or fitness field.

- Experience in non-profit organization preferred.

- Possess demonstrated ability to develop and administer a fitness and program budget.

- Must be a person of high integrity, and willing to support and promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

- Leadership skills, problem solving capabilities, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude at all times while interacting with Kroc employees, guests, and the general public.

- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to carry out multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.

- Must have strong oral and written communication skills.

- Work with minimal supervision and a high degree of independence. Must be able to handle stressful situations in a professional and calm manner.

- May be required to work flexible hours, weekends, and evenings.

- Microsoft Office skills required.

- Valid drivers license and insured transportation.

- First Aid, CPR, and AED required. Instructor certification preferred. If not current must be obtained within two months of employment.

- Required to pass a background history check.

Physical Requirements

This position requires:

- Frequent lifting of 40 pounds; occasional lifting of 75 pounds.

- Must have a basic understanding of all weight and cardio equipment and proper operation and maintenance of said equipment.

- Good mobility with the ability to climb, crawl, bend and have good dexterity in regard to grasping, reaching, and handling.

To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform the essential duties with or without accommodation.
