SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Domestic Violence Specialist II is primarily responsible for providing direct services to participants. Such services may include safety and service planning, assessments, links to community resources, and individual/group sessions.

  • Conducts intake and comprehensive assessments, including review of referral information, and identification and engagement of key participants as needed. Ensures timeframe of assessments are completed in accordance to policy and procedures
  • Engages participants in development of service/treatment plan and goals that are individualized to the participant's needs, which are measurable and culturally sensitive. Ensures timeframe of service plans are completed in accordance to the policy and procedures
  • Reviews service/treatment plans with participants bi-weekly and amends as needed to reflect participant's changing needs
  • Provides service interventions based on the service/treatment plan using appropriate program interventions. Identifies any unusual psychosocial programs and/or barriers to meeting service/treatment plan objectives and addresses these as needed
  • Provides brief individual counseling, case coordination and group counseling with participants as directed by contractual obligations with funding sources
  • Collaborates with all relevant systems and key participants to ensure participant engagement and cooperation throughout service as appropriate
  • Follows program curriculum and guidelines as directed by the Shelter Manager/Program Supervisor
  • Reports potentially hostile and lethal situations to Shelter Manager/Program Supervisor. Able to de-escalate participants as needed
  • Maintains participant notes, reports, and case records as instructed by supervisor and agency standards
  • Attends staff/agency meetings and trainings as required
  • Completes discharge planning for all families. Completes aftercare planning as needed
  • With the consent of the participant, conduct follow-up contacts by telephone with participants to monitor on-going post-program completion for the purposes of recording outcomes
  • Completes participant's attendance and progress reports for court and/or other referring agencies
  • Conducts participant exit interviews following program completion
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or any relevant behavioral health field preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree in another discipline may be substituted with appropriate experience in dealing with domestic violence or a related field.
  • Requires basic knowledge or training in a specialized or technical field or trade, such as social work, professional accounting, finance, business administration, and marketing.
  • This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and willingness to travel in personal vehicle on an as-needed basis throughout the island

EXPERIENCE
  • 2-4 years experience in domestic violence or related field
  • Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to engage, empower, and communicate effectively, respectfully, and empathetically with survivors from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives.
  • Ability to mediate and diffuse conflict.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
