Job Details

Purpose of Position:

The Ammunition Merchant will manage all merchandise procurement of ammunition, reloading supplies, gun tools and similar categories for the company. Product mix evaluation activities including, but not limited to; negotiating with vendors to obtain reasonable pricing, quantities, delivery dates, review of sales data, and establishing improved procurement programs according to company policies and procedures. They will assist in optimization of inventory levels while minimizing product stock outs and maintaining high customer service levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • and manage product mix, additions, phase outs, and liquidation of items to ensure achievement of sales, inventory turn, and margin goals
  • closely with Planning Manager, Demand Planners, and Allocators to ensure accuracy of all data pertaining to assigned items
  • close working relationship with the Demand Planners to ensure forecast accuracy, and systems maintenance in an environment of constantly changing products. Coordinate promotions, launches, and critical products per store
  • and administer of purchasing contracts, vendor return programs, and market development programs
  • records of product quotations and pricing
  • collaboratively with planning partners to execute purchasing functions
  • and verify receipt of purchase orders in preparation for payment processing
  • and resolve potential supply chain issues; follow up to ensure timely and accurate product delivery
  • with suppliers and maintain contact with vendors regarding quotations and current status of purchase orders. Ensures all products are shipped and delivered to meet the purchase order due date
  • stock outs, manage risk of excess inventory, and communicate with store operations personnel regarding pre-season needs and post season clean up
  • an understanding of national markets and product trends impacting current performance and potential future sales
  • other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • have working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • have strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to quickly adapt to the purchasing department s policies and procedures; along with the ability to create and maintain accurate and detailed records
  • possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • analytical and math skills required
  • be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Business Administration or related field preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in retail management, purchasing, or similar discipline required

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will experience a moderate noise level (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic)
