Position Overview

Primary Function:

Responsible for performing a variety of job duties and activities while working within the guidelines of, TN state law, federal laws, and university policy. This includes receiving and dispatching emergency responders (fire, police, and emergency medical service). Employ multiple transmitting devices, communicating with both internal and external sources. Must react to emergency calls within minutes or seconds without direction from a supervisor. Must immediately notify the campus community upon confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or employees occurring on campus.

This position works with considerable independence and self-direction. Only the general direction and scope of the work to be accomplished are discussed with the supervisor.

Position Description

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist in training new employees.
Must have a thorough understanding/knowledge of the Tennessee Incident-Based Reporting System (TIBRS), Tennessee Integrated Traffic Analysis Network (TITAN), Tennessee Criminal Justice Portal, and skills in area of responsibility.
Monitor Definition Radar and make appropriate emergency notifications in the event of any threat to the campus community.
Ability to make decisions and react under extreme stress levels.
Assist with general office duties and record keeping, maintaining accurate and detailed descriptions of all incoming and outgoing emergency and non-emergency communications.
Must understand and support the goals and objectives of the police department and The University of the South.
The successful completion of the annual specialized training on different aspects of the job such as TIBRS and Clery.
Assures consistently correct content in all publications, including webpages, for which responsible, either delegating this responsibility or directly updating, and deleting content regularly, meeting style and design, guidelines established by the University and maintained by marketing, and communications and undergoing training as needed.

Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.

Attributes of a Successful Candidate

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience:

One year of computer and record-keeping experience.

Job-Related Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Ability to prioritize work independently,
  • Ability to keep accurate records,
  • Proficient in computing skills and,
  • Other office duties as assigned.

Licenses & Certifications:

Emergency Dispatch Certification preferred.
