ASSISTANT CORPORATION COUNSEL - CONTRACTS & LEGISLATION SECTION
The Law Department is seeking candidates to work in the Contracts and Legislation Section to
provide general legal counsel to municipal departments, clerk s and mayor s offices. The ideal
candidate should have experience drafting contracts, RFQs and RFPs, resolutions, ordinances,
executive orders, and bid specifications; reviewing and revising bid specifications; reviewing bid
and proposal submissions; drafting and reviewing legislation for form and legality; and
researching various legal issues with a concentration on government procurement matters. The
position will require that the attorney draft legal opinions on various issues, including novel
public policy matters, and recommend an appropriate course of action.
The attorney will also assist with the defense of civil litigation matters, especially contract disputes. The successful candidate should have a proven ability to perform legal research and provide counsel with regard to the Local Public Contracts Law, Redevelopment and Housing Law, Local Lands and Buildings Law, Long Term Tax Exemption Law, Local Fiscal Affairs Law, Local Budget Law, the Open Public Records Act and the Open Public Meetings Act. The individual should have the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment with limited resources. A Juris Doctor Degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey is required. Newark residents are encouraged to apply.
