POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Walker School is seeking a candidate for an Upper School Mathematics position who is passionate about teaching and working with students and who models a love of math. Strong candidates are those who teach with creativity and innovation, who focus on developing students' problem solving skills, who model empathy and curiosity, who embrace student-centered classrooms, and who strive to meaningfully connect with their students. We are seeking candidates who have enthusiasm for teaching multiple levels of mathematics, ranging from algebra and geometry to calculus and/or statistics. The teaching load is five sections with up to three preparations, and total student contacts are between 75 and 100. Preference will be given to candidates interested in contributing to the full life of the school through coaching robotics, coaching within the Middle or Upper School athletic program, or sponsoring major student organizations.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS

The ideal candidate will be energetic, creative, and dedicated to instilling a passion for mathematics in high school students. Walker teachers are known for combining high expectations with a deep care and empathy for their students. They must have a growth mindset, be open to feedback and improvement, and model lifelong learning of practice as well as their subject area. All faculty and staff are expected to adhere to the Walker School Essential Expectations.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Serve as a grade-level advisor for 10-15 students
  • Be available for students from 3:15- 3:45 every afternoon for extra work or tutorial time
  • Perform required supervisory duties (i.e. lunchroom, carpool supervision, chaperoning grade-level events, etc.) as required
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other conferences as required
  • Participate in admission-related activities (i.e. Open Houses) as needed
  • Participate in the life of the school by coaching or advising extracurricular activities

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree or advanced coursework is preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in upper school-level instruction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an eye for detail and clarity
  • Ability and willingness to integrate technology in content delivery and skill development
  • Desire to be part of a vibrant and active faculty
