Description

General Description: This is a technical position. The incumbent performs routine inspections of wastewater lift stations reporting to the Superintendent of Maintenance and assists with other utility maintenance and operations duties including custodial work as assigned.

Organization: The Utility Maintenance Worker II reports to the Utility Superintendent of Maintenance and supervises no staff.

Essential Functions:
Operates, inspects, cleans and evaluates wastewater lift stations.
Maintains maintenance records for wastewater lift stations.
Performs routine minor maintenance for wastewater lift stations.
Identifies routine major maintenance for wastewater lift stations that is to
be completed by others.
Identifies non-routine deficiencies and problems at wastewater lift stations

that require the assistance of others to correct.
Ability to utilize work order system.
Operates and organizes the use of utility tools, equipment and vehicles.
Troubleshoots and assists during emergency situations.
Assists with other Departmental duties as assigned (e.g. custodial, river

sampling, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual work for extended periods of time under varying climatic conditions, required. Familiarity with the equipment utilized in wastewater lift station, familiarity with the techniques necessary to operate, inspect and perform basic troubleshooting of wastewater lift stations.

Education, Experience and Training: High school diploma or equivalent with two (2) years of work related experience required - OR - Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities acceptable.

Special Conditions:
Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting
Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's license
Pre-employment Physical Examination/Alcohol/Audiometric testing and

repeated in accordance to policy thereafter
Twelve-month probationary period

- Work beyond normal work schedule
Must wear uniform, including safety equipment
This position is subject to being on routine on-call.
