**Overview**

WWLT is seeking a hard-working, detail-oriented student to spend their summer in Forest City, ME, as our Conservation and Stewardship Intern. The ideal candidate will be able to work both collaboratively and independently, conducting research on surrounding properties, monitoring all WWLT properties and easements, and performing trail maintenance on our 4 miles of hiking trails. The conservation and stewardship intern will finish the internship gaining broad experience in various aspects of land management and property stewardship.

* Improve awareness of WWLT.

* Build and maintain positive relationships with the public, WWLT volunteers, and neighboring landowners.

* Assist in annual monitoring, stewarding, mapping, and reporting of WWLT properties and conservation easement.

* Identify future conservation opportunities.

* Assist in the programming, planning, and execution of summer fundraising events.?

**Duties and Responsibilities:**

* Act as the WWLT representative while in and around the community of Forest City.

* Conduct property research to identify opportunities to conserve natural areas.

* Assist with annual monitoring, taking photos of properties, report creation, and management plans for land trust owned properties and one conservation easement property.

* Perform trail maintenance and possible construction of trails.

* Identify property lines and reblaze/reflagas needed.

* Research prospective funding sources for WWLT land projects.

* Assist with all aspects of summer fundraising events.

* Coordinate a Stewardship Day with the assistance of the Stewardship Committee.

* Create and update maps using ArcGIS Online.

* Assist with office support.

* As a final capstone project, the intern will be expected to create a formal template for finding and identifying properties on the market and flagging properties that have a public benefit.

**Qualifications:**

* Minimum of one year of college, with preference given to students working towards degrees in environmental science, forestry, geography, or a related degree (or equivalent experience); other majors will be considered.

* Commitment to the conservation mission of the Woodie Wheaton Land Trust.

* Enthusiasm for working with the public.

* Enthusiasm for working outside.

* Ability to work collaboratively, take direction, and multi-task.

* Physically able to perform duties of the position.

* Driven, detail-oriented, conscientious, and hard-working.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS Online.

* Must furnish own laptop (Wi-Fi is provided at WWLT Center).

* Ability to work weekends and evenings occasionally.

* Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
