Job Description:

• The client is seeking an IT professional to provide network cabling services for the department which at times, requires statewide travel, occasionally overnight to perform cabling work.
• The selected candidate as part of the Network Support Team will design, implement and perform network/voice cabling to include engineering and deployment of new data and voice networks for the client networks; will work with vendors to develop and implement solutions; will develop policies and guidelines related to all aspects of network systems based on telecommunications standards and best practices; review and update policies and guidelines; troubleshoot major network failures; analyze networks for capacity and errors; manage vendor relationships and telecommunications support agreements and validate network billings.
• The selected candidate will also design, direct, review and validate agency-wide cabling improvements and changes; research technology trends for network support area; and assess and implement telecommunications technologies for applicability to the client.
• Experience in network engineering to include analysis of network requirements and performance for a large-scale network.
• Experience in data and telecommunications to include installing, testing and inspecting deployed communications systems.
• Experience installing, migrating, and supporting critical, multi-site networks.
• Knowledge of wire-line and wireless communications technologies and standards, including fiber optics, T1, DS-3, MPLS, ATM, Frame Relay, ISDN, cellular, CDMA, VoIP, Cisco, and Nortel.
• bility to manage all phases of network installation and administration; to research and document communications technologies, topologies and trends; and to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with internal and external customers.
• This position requires the ability to travel statewide, sometimes overnight to perform cabling work.
• Experience with Comdial, VoIP and PBX phone systems.
• Experience with VITA wiring contracts, state procurement guidelines for network cabling services, as well as managing, preparing job specs and performing overall inspections of work performed by a state-hired SWAM vendor are desired.
