JOB TITLE: Equipment Operator IDEPARTMENT: Public WorksDIVISION: StreetsJOB TYPE: Full - TimeSALARY: $15.45 hourly, ($32,153.00 annually) w/o an CDL LicenseWith Class A CDL salary will be $17.45 hourly, ($36,296.00 annually)Job Summary/ScopeOperates equipment in the maintenance and repair of city streets. Cleans storm sewers and ditches after rains, cuts brush out of creeks, installs road culverts and builds and repairs headwalls. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities* Operates and maintains equipment including dump truck, back hoe, high loader, track crawler, chain saw, and miscellaneous power tools.* Transports tools and equipment to jobs.* Shovels and performs general labor tasks.* Spreads salt and plows snow in winter.* Installs guardrails.* Cuts weeds and brush.* Responds to emergencies as needed.* Trims trees and branches to prescribed clearances over roadways.* Hauls dirt, rock and other material.* Operates a jack hammer.* Sets up barricades.* Operates snow blower in winter.* Maintains regular and reliable attendance.Other Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms all other related duties as assigned.Employee Behavior and ConductCity employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and shall exhibit and extend such professional conduct appropriate for the circumstances to those with whom they come into contact both internally and externally during the performance of their duties. Examples of professional conduct include, but are not limited to, being communicative, informative, fair, honest, and respectful.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities* Must obtain valid Class "A" CDL with Tanker endorsement within 3 months of employment.* Required to be on-call and/or carry a pager and respond to emergencies as needed.* Skills in the safe and efficient operation of equipment and machinery used in the construction and maintenance of roadways.* Ability to follow instructions.* Six months to one year prior experience in related field required.* Six months to one year prior experience in concrete and asphalt techniques preferred.* Ability to learn applicable City Ordinances.* Knowledge of general street construction procedures.Material and Equipment Directly UsedOperates a variety of equipment, including paint stripers, dump truck, snow plow, jack hammer, back hoe, high loader, track crawler, chain saw and other tools directly related to the maintenance of the streets. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.Working Environment/Physical RequirementsWork is performed under a variety of conditions ranging from extreme cold, heat, windy, and wet. Must be able to stand for long periods and operate equipment with dexterity. Must have the ability to routinely lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Occasionally lift objects weighing as much as 75 pounds or assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds. Work involves bending, stooping, climbing and reaching. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes.
