Campus Safety Officer

Part-time weekend

Schedule: Part-time calendar year position (16 hours per week), Saturday and Sunday.

Shift available:3 pm - 11:30 pm (Sat/Sun)Additional hours may be required.

FLSA: Non-Exempt
Classification: Staff

Along with other departments on campus, the Safety Officer will assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors. The Safety Officer maintains a high degree of visibility on School property, serves as a deterrent to crime and enhances the feeling of personal security for students, employees and visitors. The Safety Officer assists law enforcement, EMS and Fire Department personnel with their response to the School.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

Patrol School property, checking doors, gates, windows and all points of entry to School property to ensure that unauthorized persons have not gained access to the premises undetected.
Immediately respond to all calls for assistance and service in a courteous, expeditious and professional manner.
Monitor campus property for safety hazards, reporting violations and instituting immediate corrective action if possible.
Maintain a complete log for each tour of duty - registering all activity, the exact time of service was provided, and all unusual conditions when discovered.
Work assigned security details at School sponsored events.
Assist faculty and administration in enforcing all School's safety rules and regulations.
Adhere to established School policies and guidelines and follow specific instructions.
Immediately notify the Director of Safety of all major incidents.
Performs other duties as needed and assigned.

Qualifications:

A High School degree or a combination of education and work experience in related fields, preferably in an independent school environment.

The ideal candidate will:

Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, working with various audiences (Students, Employees and Visitors).
Possess the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage time effectively.
Works well under pressure.

Able to work independently and make sound decisions with flexibility/adaptability and have a calm demeanor.
Show flexibility and adaptability; willingness to help team members if needed.

Hold or have the ability to obtain a CT Guard Card.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
Extensive walking, stair climbing, standing and driving on and around campus.
Patrols are on foot or in a vehicle, and sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to lift and transport up to 20 lbs. regularly.

Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
Work is performed on a smoke free campus.

Valid Driver's license required.
