Position: Director of Business Development, determined by the candidate's qualification

Work Location: Remote work, living in NJ, NY, PA, etc. (East Coast)

Must Haves: Experience in business development within the small molecule field of CDMO/Pharmaceutical/Biotech companies, familiarity with the CMC process, and general knowledge of API.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities for the company. Prospect pharmaceutical companies seeking CDMO services to qualify new projects with scientists and demonstrate our professional touch as a world-class supplier.
  • Deeply understand customer needs to ensure accuracy, timely revision, and fair pricing of our proposals to deliver a memorable customer experience.
  • Help build the sales process and record information in the CRM database to enable both peers and commercial leadership across the greater Porton network to communicate and succeed.
  • Provide voice-of-customer to internal partners and continuously build field sales opinions to evolve our value proposition while in startup mode.
  • Local travel to visit customers. Limited travel outside of territory for meetings and conferences not to exceed 25%.
  • Work closely with leadership and cross-functional members of the management team to drive and implement corporate strategy and long-range planning based on current portfolio opportunities and risks, financing needs, and organizational capabilities. Assist in identifying portfolio, financing, and/or organizational gaps and plans for how to best address them.
  • Budget control, revenue, and expense strategy management.
  • Expand the profile and reach of the company and its brands, and develop and strengthen internal and external relationships that will lead to increased lead generation and market share.
  • Collaborate internally and externally to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop campaigns and analyze inbound marketing data/trends to drive new business.
  • Build long-term trusting relationships with customers, in cooperation with BUs and other Porton functions to ensure professional and efficient transfers of agreed business, in line with customers requirements and with expected profitability for Porton.
  • Represent the company at various community and/or business meetings to promote the company, organize market research and collect customers project information.
  • Utilize CRM software to accurately track and update leads, contacts, opportunities, proposals, business development activities, and projects.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ideally have an existing customer network, positive relationships, and knowledge of agreement execution from a previous CDMO business development role.
  • Has sold related products or services to learn a variety of approaches when selling to startups vs. big pharma.
  • Proficiency with CRM or customer relationship management tools.
  • Formal training in a consultative or solution-based sales methodology is a plus.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, ability to communicate accessibly and concisely about products or services to outsiders, including prospective customers and clients, partners, and vendors.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Big-picture thinking.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor s degree in Life Sciences required; MBA or post-graduate scientific degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of field sales or business development experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Customer dedication to relentlessly seek and distill solutions from complexity.
  • Good knowledge of the clinical drug development process.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Mindful listener and communicator (written and oral).
  • Knowledge of cGMP, API, and drug development process of small molecules.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional leadership abilities including organizational awareness, business acumen, political astuteness, influencing/negotiations, decision-making ability, conflict resolution, and positive motivation and courage.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience with Chinese pharmaceutical companies is a plus.
