Description

Works under the direct supervision of the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or designee. Employee must exhibit friendly and professional customer service skills. Assists with the day to day operational areas including implementation & facilitation of a wide variety of therapeutic recreation and leisure programs, special events, and related services for persons with disabilities, all ages, and special needs. Technical work in developing, implementing and overseeing a wide variety of recreational program areas such as cultural arts, special events, recreational classes and activities including summer camp, after school, and athletics. Performs light maintenance of areas to ensure safety and cleanliness of facility. Performs clerical/administrative support duties including greeting the public and answering inquiries concerning city/departmental operations, programs and activities; assisting walk-in participants/patrons with necessary information; receiving telephone inquiries and complaints/ascertaining the nature of the call/directing to appropriate personnel for further assistance; preparing correspondence, publications, notices, flyers, and other documents.
Typical Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by one (1) year responsible experience in planning, promoting, organizing and conducting recreational activities in an organized recreation program position. Six (6) months experience working with individuals with special needs and disabilities in recreation programs or similar activities. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work various hours during the day, evening and weekends. Ability to establish rapport with public. Computer experience desired. Physical abilities include standing, walking, bending, grasping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Specific abilities include seeing, reading, hearing and talking. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Supplemental Information

Work Days/Hours : Monday - Sunday, up to 25 hours per week; Hours may vary between 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
