**Overview:** Under the general supervision of the Plant Manager, the Automotive Bus Painter performs all of the tasks required to paint a bus from start to finish. Automotive Bus Painters will prepare fabricated bus body surfaces and exterior parts, including Step Frames, Emergency Doors, and Handicap Doors. Paints bus bodies and exterior bus body parts with multi-color finish coats as required by the production work order. The Automotive Bus Painter inspects areas to be painted to ensure that the finish coat will meet specifications, then follows applicable painting procedures to apply the finish coat. The incumbent inspects his/her work for any defects and corrects as needed, and maintains personal safety devices, painting tools and equipment in proper operating order. Automotive Bus Painters must maintain a clean and orderly workspace and be able to operate with little supervision.

**General Responsibilities:**

* Follows prescribed paint department procedures prior to making repairs and painting.

* Cleans unpainted bus body or unpainted external parts to be painted using prescribed organic cleaners.

* Checks entire bus body for any defects in the paint and repairs where needed.

* Re-checks caulking to ensure quality and adhesion of paint. May provide touch up caulking and sealing as needed.

* Washes entire bus body with prescribed organic cleaners.

* Cleans the paint booth and all paint spraying equipment and tools used in the painting process with appropriate organic solvent.

* Maintains all personal protective equipment.

* Inspects area to be painted for defects.

* On unpainted body and unpainted exterior body parts, sands or grinds any defect found then mixes and applies filler to repair the defective spot. After the filler has properly set, sands the area smooth and applies paint primer over spot.

* On pre-painted body surfaces and pre-painted exterior body parts that need repair and refinishing, scuffs up surface to be painted, cleans surface, masks as needed, applies paint and blends with the original coat.

* Removes masking tape used in the paint repair, checks for any over spray and cleans as needed. When paint is dry, buffs out blended areas.

* Long and varied hours required occasionally.

* Exposure to fumes, chemicals, and toxic items that require training for haz-mat.

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance. The employee will frequently lift and/or move 20-25 pounds and may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

**Education and Experience:**

* High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

* 1 - 3 years of related experience and/or training; or

* Equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Experience in Production, Assembly, or Light Manufacturing desired.
