Position Summary:
The Associate Director/Director, Biology will be instrumental in defining Firefly Bio s strategy and target indications. The Associate Director/Director, Biology will propose novel treatment ideas and will build and oversee a team of biologists evaluating novel drug conjugates for applications in oncology, and other areas of unmet medical need. The position is on-site and direct, hands-on supervision of lab personnel is expected.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the functional characterization of bioconjugates
Co-lead/lead drug discovery projects Propose novel drug conjugate targets and treatment ideas
Establish in-house capabilities to evaluate target expression on and in cells and in tissues
Establish strong in-house capabilities to perform in vitro experiments with high throughput and characterize the MoA of innovative payloads
Design and manage in vivo studies at CROs, GLP toxicity studies and assist in planning clinical studies
Assist in preparing documents to support IND filings
Participate in project teams and actively participate in the development of an innovative product portfolio
Advise company leadership and participate in leadership team meetings
Manage, mentor and develop staff to effectively execute to portfolio project plans
Requirements and Experience:
Ph.D. degree in cancer biology, immunology or related discipline or B.S. or M.S. in relevant field with appropriate work experience
6+ years of work experience in a research and/or development environment and 3+ years of successful management/leadership
Strong experience in leading and execution of drug discovery projects including IND submissions
Strong hands-on experience in designing and executing in vitro and in vivo studies to validate targets and treatment ideas using ADCs, mAbs, or other targeted therapies
Strong background in cancer biology and drug discovery including managing experiments at CROs
Good utility of bioinformatic tools for target validation and experimental design
Demonstrated strong leadership qualities as direct manager of laboratory personnel and as project team leader
Creativity and problem-solving skills paired with ability to excel in a highly collaborative environment
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Additional Skills:
Experience in IHC and/or proteomics
