Role and Responsibilities

A Civil Superintendent is responsible for all day to day activities on one or multiple jobs. The superintendent will typically have a concrete foreman or crew leader on each job. At times the superintendent will be required to act as the foreman on a job site. Frequent job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Quantity take off in the field

Scheduling of crews, equipment, and material deliveries

Reviewing specific job requirements with foreman and/or crew leaders

Site safety compliance

Understanding of job and construction drawings

Confirming layout and critical measures on the job

Ensuring a quality finished product

Working with Clients, Architects, Engineers, and other design professionals

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Preferred 2-4 year degree in a field related to civil and/or construction management
  • Preferred 5 years experience in civil construction
  • Preferred 5 years experience in managing of crews

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of construction documents and process. Specifically as they relate to civil construction
  • Proficient in critical layout
  • Proficient in working with grades and elevations as they relate to civil construction
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (word, excel, project)

Additional Notes

A Civil Superintendent should have a strong work ethic and be honest, trustworthy, dependable, and self-motivated. This job requires physical labor and the ability to work outside and under harsh conditions at times
