Job Summary

Billing Specialist

Responsible for the billing under the direct and indirect supervision of the billing manager, the Billing Specialist completes ambulance billing and coding, answers inquiries from insurance companies and patients, and explains all actions pertaining to the billing/accounting processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verify completion of run reports daily and from the previous days.
  • Verify patient demographics, personal insurance information and completion of all required signatures.
  • Enter necessary patient information into the billing system.
  • Submit to all insurances and contracts.
  • Complete Medicare, MassHealth, and Insurance reviews as needed.
  • Assist customers with their account information.
  • File supplement or secondary insurance upon request.
  • Work with Traumasoft to ensure the most efficient billing process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Authority

The Billing Specialist exercises full responsibility overall patient care coding and billing processing.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in medical coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS)
  • Must have previous/existing knowledge of Medicare guidelines
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience with billing software, electronic health record systems and Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy laws
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Detail-oriented in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, fast learner, demonstrates initiative, good judgment, and flexibility.

Job Environment

A fast-paced environment with multi-tasking, prioritizing, and frequent interruptions. Continuous interpersonal communication required with managers, staff, patients, EMS personnel and the general public.
