The Los Angeles Business Journal, the leading source of news and information for the Los Angeles business community, is seeking an enterprising and energetic tech reporter for our print and digital properties.
This reporter will write both short, breaking news stories and longer features on the companies and executives that shape Los Angeles dynamic tech business landscape, ranging from small startups to companies worth north of $1 billion. The reporter will also contribute articles for special reports and special editions throughout the year. While the reporter will primarily cover the tech industry, there will be opportunities to write some general assignment articles as well.
The reporter is ideally a self-driven, deadline- and detail-oriented individual enthusiastic about print and digital media. The tech reporter role will report to the Editor and will provide news coverage with analysis.
The Los Angeles Business Journal is a weekly print publication with a 40-year history of covering the dynamic business community in L.A. County. The organization publishes a weekly print publication as well as additional original content online, in daily e-newsletters and on social media.
Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Business Journal launched Inside The Valley, a magazine focused on Valley-area businesses, that is published six times a year. In this role, you will also be writing magazine-style content for the publication.
Responsibilities:
Build and maintain a network of sources and relationships with key players across the L.A. business community.
Develop a deep knowledge of people, companies and business trends across the region.
Provide breaking news stories and impactful features for print and digital platforms, often on tight deadlines.
Pitch topics daily for print and digital platforms.
Location:
This is an in-person job at the Business Journal s offices in West LA. Local candidates only please.
Compensation:
The job range for this position is $44,000 to $50,000 annually. The benefits package includes medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off and a 401(k) plan.
Requirements:
Ideally one year of experience covering business or news at a print or digital outlet. Exceptions will be made for the right candidate.
Ability to deliver quality content and meet tight deadlines.
Knowledge of companies and people in the Los Angeles business community.
Familiarity with AP style.
Bachelor s degree or higher, preferably with a focus on journalism or communications.
Based in Los Angeles. Our office is in West Los Angeles.
