Your role will involve identifying complexities, negotiating settlements efficiently, and delivering prompt, accurate, courteous, and professional service to insureds and agents. This position calls for exceptional interpersonal, organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills, along with the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in significant matters.


Essential Job Functions

  • Conducts investigations, evaluates and makes recommendations regarding coverage, liability, and resolution strategies following Claims best practices.
  • Execute thorough claim investigations; scene inspections, recorded statements, secure relative documentation / information.
  • Negotiate claim resolution directly with Claimant or Plaintiff Counsel, when appropriate.
  • Selects, engages, and collaborates with defense counsel in the handling of lawsuits, including strategizing plans of action and file resolution.
  • Manages litigation expenses and ensures that defense counsel adheres to Millers Mutual s billing guidelines.
  • Complies with and directs defense counsels' utilization of Outside Counsel Guidelines.
  • Review and apply specific claim guidelines, insurance policies and endorsements and their impact on coverage.
  • Recognizes and elevates, to leadership s attention, claims with large potential exposure and/or reinsurance exposure potential.
  • Responds to claim complaints and inquiries.
  • Urgency exhibited in response to clients, policyholders, agents, and coworkers.
  • Maintain professional and technical insurance industry knowledge through continuing education.
  • Flexibility in claim scheduling outside of normal business hours, including travel.
  • Attendance at periodic legal proceedings which could include travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • BA/BS Degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant GL adjusting experience. In lieu of Degree must have 10 years of claims handling / related experience.
  • Currently hold or actively working toward insurance-related designation in CPCU, AIC, SCLA etc.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in tort/contract law and complex/high exposure commercial claims handling required, Litigation claim handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, as well as interpersonally with individuals and groups in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrates solid negotiation skills.
  • Ability to use/learn job related Technology.
  • Ability to make decisions with minimal supervision while keeping the leader informed.
  • Ability to multi-task.
