Enevate's research and development team is looking for a Senior Staff Scientist II to join the team

that specializes in material and cell degradation mechanism analysis for fast charge and high energy density lithium-ion batteries. The successful candidate will be focusing on advanced characterization techniques, to achieve long cycle/calendar life and high safety performance for silicon anode-based lithium-ion batteries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide project leadership to design experiments using a combination of electrochemical, material, and imaging techniques for analysis of Lithium ion batteries and materials.

Conduct and analyze data from material and cell degradation mechanism studies to provide leadership to the research team on potential solutions.

Investigate hypotheses related to the cell performance using electrochemical and analytical techniques while documenting the conclusions

Maintain an understanding of the state-of-the-art analysis techniques through literature review and vendor collaboration.

Collaborate with engineering, R&D, and marketing teams to identify and meet all requirements and targets.

All other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

Deep understanding of lithium ion battery fundamentals

The successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player, as well as provide creative "out-of-the-box" solutions and approaches. This position will require a high level of maturity, drive, and flexibility to work in a rapidly developing environment with a strong hands-on focus.

Demonstrated capability of designing experiments and analyzing data to drive decisions in an R&D environment.

Deep understanding of electrochemistry and experience with electrochemical analysis techniques such as CV, LSV, EIS, 3-electrode cell measurements, and common potentiostatic and galvanostatic methods.

Experience with analysis techniques such as SEM, EDS, XCT, image processing, FTIR, NMR, GC, XPS, Raman, BET, TEM, XRD, porosimetry, tortuosity, mechanical stress measurements.

Proficiency in utilizing Minitab and/or Excel for data analysis.

Outstanding written communication skills applied to the preparation of presentations, patent disclosures, and written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in lithium-ion battery material and cell degradation mechanism analysis, especially in

the electric vehicle space, will be positively considered.

Specific experience with silicon anode chemistry is highly desired.

Education/Experience

PhD in relevant field with 1 or more years post-degree in commercial/industrial R&D.

M.S. or B.S. with 5+ years experience with deep knowledge in lithium-ion chemistry and battery
