Description

The Mental Health Counselor provides a range of services as a part of the treatment team serving young adults and families. Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Mental Health Counselor provides screening, assists with linkage to community resources, conducts case management needs assessments, provides outreach to the community and provides interpretation and translation as needed. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide Screening for clients who may qualify for Transitional Youth Services

Provide Individual and Group Rehabilitation Services to clients in collaboration with the primary therapist. Services to be provided in the clinic and in the field (including home, school, and other community settings).

Link families with community resources and act as liaison with community providers of services

Conduct Case Management Needs Assessments during the initial intake process.

Maintain required minimum productivity requirements consistently.

Complete all documentation in a timely and comprehensive manner and by required deadlines in compliance with all DMH and Center requirements.

Assist in Community Outreach and Education activities

Provide interpretation and translation services. Assist in overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers and in obtaining culturally appropriate services.

Attend Staff Meetings weekly and come prepared to regular Supervision/Consultation meetings with Program Manager.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field.

Minimum of three (3) years' experience, either employed or working as a volunteer, with youth and/or young adults.

Must pass Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.

Bilingual, Spanish-speaking, and accurate interpreting and translating skills.

Valid California Driver's License is required. Must meet guidelines of agency's driving criteria (i.e. Proof of liability insurance, minimal moving violations, driving record free of DUI's or reckless driving in the last 3 years, etc.), and maintain the criteria as per company policy at all times.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must act in accordance with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and related state law confidentiality requirements. Must successfully complete the Center's HIPAA training, pass the HIPAA test, and receive the Certification of Compliance.

Computer skills and knowledge of community resources.

Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.

Interacting with other employees at work is an essential function of the job.

Arriving at work on time and not leaving early is an essential function of the job.
