Role Description


This is a full-time on-site role as a Surgery Registered Veterinary Technician/Veterinary Technician at OakVet Animal Specialty Hospital located in Oakland, CA. The role involves providing compassionate care to patients and working collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure that patients receive appropriate medical treatment. Daily tasks include preparation, assistance, and monitoring of anesthesia, assisting with surgical procedures.


Qualifications


  • Valid California RVT license
  • At least 1 year of experience in Anesthesia
  • Safe animal handling and restraint
  • IV catheter placement & venipuncture
  • Complete preoperative anesthesia planning
  • Ability to calculate drug doses
  • Appropriately intubate and secure airway
  • Maintenance of an appropriate level of sedation or anesthesia with injectable or inhalant anesthetics
  • Display and apply knowledge of a mechanical ventilator function
  • Display the ability to perform or learn arterial catheterization
  • Display ability to perform safe practice of locoregional anesthesia techniques
  • Ability to calculate and deliver constant rate infusions
  • Ability to interpret physiological parameters (heart rate, respiratory rate, end-tidal/inspired CO2, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, body temperature, basic ECG tracings)
  • Ability to perform basic recovery procedures and recognize when other interventions are required such as administration of sedation/analgesia, administration of supplemental oxygen, and re-intubation
  • Ability to assess pain and perform post-operative pain scoring
  • Ability to perform basic and advanced life support under the supervision of a veterinarian during a CPR event
  • Ability to anesthetize at least ASA Physical Status class IV
  • Perform procedural checks and routine cleaning of equipment and report malfunctions
  • Weekend and Holidays Required
