Infection Prevention Nurse Full Time

Galloway Nursing and Rehab is looking for an Infection Prevention Nurse with experience in Long Term Care. This position is a full-time position and is responsible for implementing programs designed to provide knowledge and awareness by educating, coaching and verifying staff performance to ensure best practices and compliance with facility policies and procedures, including Department of Health regulatory mandates, Federal, State and local laws. Self-directed and able to lead a staff development program. This position is responsible for providing a safe environment where risks for infection are identified and minimized for patients, employees, and visitors. To provide surveillance programs, data reporting, data analysis & intervention development aimed at reduction of healthcare acquired infections in patients and employees.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Is responsible for surveillance, rounding, analyzing, interpreting and the reporting of healthcare associated infections.

  • Supports the development of evidence-based organizational infection prevention policies/standards that meet state, federal, regulatory, and accrediting agencies standard.

  • Leads in infection prevention and serves as a resource, educator, researcher and proponent of change in order to influence infection prevention improvement to provide quality health care within the organization.

  • Works with Pharmacy to monitor antibiotic usage and resistance.

  • Advises others about the facility s isolation policy and the disposition of residents admitted with infections, as well as in-house residents.

  • Together with the physician, is responsible for the investigation of all significant clusters of infection.

  • Presents Inservice Training programs related to infection prevention and control.

  • Is the liaison with the Department of Health in reporting reportable infectious diseases.

  • Responsible for environmental surveillance and safety rounds.

  • Responsible for documentation of rounds, findings, and reporting to ICC.

  • Is a member of the Infection Control Committee (Safety and Health Committee) and prepares and presents quarterly reports for the Committee meetings.

  • Attends workshops pertaining to Infection Control to gain knowledge and current practice.

  • Develops or revises infection control policies and procedures that are current with present standards of practice.

  • Is knowledgeable in infection control practices and OSHA guidelines.

  • Is responsible for Influenza clinics, PPD and Hep B injections.

  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed by the supervisor

  • Oversite of Antibiotic Stewardship Program-A process for a periodic review of antibiotic use by prescribing practitioners. Manage Monitoring system for antibiotic use.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Current IV certification preferred

  • Must Be certified as an Infection Prevention Nurse

  • Experience with LTC

  • Long term care experience: 5 plus years

  • Required license: Current NJ state RN license

    CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training Course
