Job scope:

The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for ensuring the continued success of the Manufacturing site's internal maintenance program. This position has direct reports.

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruits, interviews and hires new staff, with Operations Mgr. , and Director level Mgr. approval.
  • Ensures staff are trained in maintenance activities and are following standard and recognized operating procedures.
  • Ensures proper safety training of staff and that safety practices are adhered to.
  • Coach, mentor, train and develop maintenance employees to meet current and future business requirements.
  • Oversee all maintenance-related work.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure operational efficiency of facility electrical equipment and mechanical systems through timely inspection and repair.
  • Ensure all maintenance operations are done in accordance with company policy, National Electric Code and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensure facility buildings and grounds are kept clean, safe, mowed, snow removed, etc.
  • Enforce all health and safety rules and regulations according to state/federal laws and company protocol.
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors for execution of maintenance work.
  • Hire and supervise contractors for specialized maintenance and other facility projects.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory.
  • Develop suppliers.
  • Track expenses and oversee the budget for maintenance.
  • Assign repair schedules and evaluate repair cost estimates.
  • Maintain computerized maintenance management software.
  • Work with department managers to schedule maintenance and repairs on critical assets.
  • Continue to improve maintenance departments proactive, predictive and preventive programs.
  • Create and implement measures to minimize breakdowns and repairs (performing quality checks of all machinery, tools, equipment etc..
  • Troubleshoot problem areas and create a clear plan of action for fixing necessary parts.
  • Draft reports as needed and requested.


Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, hydraulic, HVAC, fork- lifts/internal combustion, hoists/cranes, carpentry, plumbing, motion control, generators/transfer switches and mechanical systems, machine tools, lift equipment, etc.
  • Solid knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations and codes.
  • Familiarity in drafting and understanding blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to consistently maintain positive client relationships.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently handle both administrative and mechanical responsibilities.
  • Makes safety a priority at all times.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and people management skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.


Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in engineering, administration, facility management); or 5+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of a variety of mechanical systems.
  • Previous managerial / Lead experience highly preferred
  • Experience managing multiple vendors.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Suite) and a solid understanding of data analysis software
