Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Monitor Technician is responsible for operating the monitoring equipment on the Progressive Care Unit. The Monitor Technician is responsible for observing the adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient's cardiac rhythms. The Monitor Technician observes these rhythms on a continuous basis, to rapidly detect and report dysrhytmias to assure proper treatment.

Essential Functions

  • Operates electronic monitoring equipment and print-out devices to assure safe, proper use of equipment.
  • Observes continuously and analyzes all rhythms and changes by measuring heart rate, PR interval and QRS width as outlined in unit task list to assure accurate assessment of rhythms and prompt intervention
  • Promptly recognizes and alerts appropriate personnel in the event of life-threatening arrhythmias, and runs all Code 9 strips for the adolescent, adult and geriatric patient's record in order to assure appropriate response and accurate documentation in emergency situations.
  • Delivers organized and accurate reports to oncoming shift to maintain continuity of rhythm assessments.

Schedule: 7:00 am to 7:30 pm, every other weekend and every other holiday

Qualifications

Education and Experience:High School Diploma/GED required Must complete a four week in-house training course And pass annual dysrhythmia exam required
