Design Certification Engineer - Aviation

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Design Certification Engineer - Aviation in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to avionics hardware development, requirements development and hardware certification efforts with minimal guidance from others.

Essential Functions

  • Perform schematic design and PCB layout for digital, analog, RF or FPGA circuits including development of VHDL code in accordance with the DO-254 process through collaboration with design certification team members
  • With guidance from mentor or team leader, lead a simple product development effort (such as a controller or derivative product)
  • Lead multi-product HCR effort, manage life time buy for aviation hardware product components, and Develop ATE and DO-178B software in support of software verification efforts
  • Perform MPS development, TSO testing, and product improvement testing in support of reliability enhancements
  • Complete basic certification and DO-254 documentation and signoff as DCE
  • Perform systems engineering activities including trace matrix development and generic safety analysis through Fault Tree Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, and System Safety Analysis
  • Participate in concept and PDP development in collaboration with design certification engineering team
  • Provide support to the team through patent research, managing and maintaining the team's SharePoint page and editing/release process documents
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced design certification engineers (Design Certification Engineer 1 or Intern)

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or a related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must possess demonstrated knowledge, education, and/or training of basic circuits (Digital, FPGA, Analog and/or RF)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior organizational/analytical skills with keen attention to detail/quality and must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others, ensuring successful achievement of company goals

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience and/or knowledge of RTCA DO160 and DO254
  • Knowledge and/or training with writing and reviewing software based on DO-178 design assurance requirements
  • Knowledge and/or training with avionics safety analysis
  • Aviation related experience
