SHR Talent is partnering with a long-standing commercial real estate group in Birmingham, AL in its search for a Controller. As the Controller, you will be a key member of the commercial real estate management team, overseeing all aspects of financial operations and reporting. The Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, implementing controls, and providing strategic financial guidance.
The ideal candidate for the Controller role will possess strong leadership and analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, strong attention to detail, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and extensive accounting experience, and a deep understanding of real estate finance.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the financial operations of the organization, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Oversee the accounting team and ensure timely and accurate completion of financial tasks
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulations
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors for annual audits and tax filings
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and strategic planning
- Monitor cash flow, investments, and banking relationships
- Stay updated on accounting standards and regulations relevant to the real estate industry
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize financial processes and drive efficiency
- Mentor and develop accounting staff to support their professional growth
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification, preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience
- Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards
- Experience in real estate accounting or property management, preferred
